Artist Biography
Marilyn Griffin is a visual artist based in Townsville, North Queensland. Her creative journey has been shaped by a deep appreciation for architecture, culture, and the fleeting moments of everyday life.
In 2007, Marilyn discovered a passion for reflection photography—capturing shopfront windows that revealed layered images of streetscapes, people, signage, and design. These reflections became more than photographs; they were visual stories of time, place, and identity, expressing themes of architecture, consumerism, and culture.
A dedicated volunteer in local art galleries, Marilyn’s involvement in the arts community further deepened her interest in visual storytelling. Joining Urban Sketchers marked the beginning of her full-time commitment to art, where she honed her observational skills and developed a love for capturing the character of streets and cities.
Her artistic practice expanded through life drawing, unlocking a new fascination with the human form and expressive linework. This passion led her to formal study, and she is currently completing a Diploma of Visual Arts at TAFE.
Today, Marilyn’s work spans drawing, painting, and mixed media, blending structured form with spontaneous mark-making. Her art invites viewers to pause, reflect, and see the world through a layered, thoughtful lens.
